The Untamed Urban | 2016
Raised in the outskirts of Berlin, Heike spent her formative years on the spacious and ancient Antipodean continent of Australia. The awe-inspiring intricate systems of the natural world and our complex human relationship as part of, yet at times apart from it, inspire much of her observational work.
She is interested in the encounters of the mindbody interacting with its very surroundings, interweaving momentary observations with elemental and societal reflections.
Her research was fostered during her engagement as student and consequently as lecturer in the Australian National University School of Art Environment Studio. Her practice explores the threshold of perceptions using the body as a recurring theme and material, interweaving sculptural techniques with photography and video.
